I'm Cathrine and I launched NORSK, my Buckinghamshire café & lifestyle store, in 2018. The online shop followed in 2020. NORSK is more than just a retailer though – it's a passion project and it's personal! It’s how I import a slice of my native Norwegian style to my adopted home in the UK. It’s also a really good way of staving off homesickness. Basically, NORSK is Norway, my way. Although – small print alert! – I source pieces from other neighbouring countries too in my travels across Scandinavia, on the hunt for beautiful pieces. I also stock a few UK brands with a suitably Nordic aesthetic and outlook.

I’ve lived in the UK for two decades but I grew up in Kristiansand, a seaside town on the southern tip of Norway, known for its archipelago where chic Norwegians flock in the summer months.
I hadn’t planned to stay but I’m still here in rural Buckinghamshire, nearly two decades on. I’ll blame my British husband Simon for that! However, I’ve stayed true to my Norwegian roots by building a traditional white clapboard summer house at the bottom of my garden. It's now available to rent for short stays - see here. My décor style, meanwhile, is a mix of classic Scandinavian clean-lines and quirky British vintage finds with a rock’n’roll edge. It’s a house of two halves -much like my heart.
I’m still very connected to my homeland and I return on a regular basis to see friends and family – and catch a glimpse of the ocean and the mountains. (You don’t get a lot of those in land-locked Buckinghamshire!) And while I’m there, I delight in hunting down the newest, coolest interiors and gift brands for NORSK. But it’s more than that – I’m eternally inspired by the Nordic lifestyle. The gentler pace of life, the emphasis on the great outdoors, the desire to live in the moment. There’s a reason why us Scandis are always voted the happiest people on the planet!
